What we did & where we stayed in Kuala Lumpur with a baby
We had the good fortune, on our trip to Thailand, to spend a few days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We didn’t have long, but we got to take in a couple of the major sites and get a feel for the city.
Not to mention hang out in the most amazing pool I’ve ever been in.
As if that view of the Petronas Towers from the pool wasn’t awesome enough, you could look out the other direction and see the KL Tower. And honestly, this is not a unique view in this city. There are TONS of places you can stay with these amazing views in Kuala Lumpur!

Speaking of the KL Tower, did you know that it has a revolving restaurant at the top? It’s called Atmosphere 360, and it’s pretty damn cool. And even coming from a city with our own famous revolving restaurant at the top of our own famous tower landmark (heeeyyyy Space Needle!), I really enjoyed our time in the KL Tower.

Atmosphere 360 lends even more awesome views of the Petronas Towers, and it has a delicious buffet. I’ll take that any day.

Another must-do in Kuala Lumpur is the Batu Caves. This is a set of Hindu temples in caves at the top of a hefty set of stairs (272 to be exact!). It’s less than half an hour outside of KL, and it is breathtaking.

When you get to the top, watch out for the monkeys as you work your way through the caves! You’ll also find bats and chickens up there.
Wandering through the caves you will see Hindu shrines and imagery, and in the back it opens up to the skies above. There is apparently great spelunking and rock climbing available in the caves . We tried neither.

Of course, the big tourist attractions are not always the best way to explore the culture of a place. We love to just walk around the neighborhoods in places that we travel to – there is always so much to take in.

This particular area was just a short walk from our high-rise condo, but was a really neat little neighborhood. We found an amazing roti place and spent the rest of the trip trying to find any that could compare. We couldn’t.
The other thing we searched all over for was beer! Malaysia is a Muslim country, so it is very hard to find anywhere serving alcohol. The hotel bar, like ones we’ve visited in the Middle East, only served soda.
We were chatting with a taxi driver about dinner recommendations, and joked that we just wanted somewhere with beer. He took us to Bukit Bintang – a bustling tourist area.

It did not disappoint. If you’re looking for a night out in Kuala Lumpur, this would be the area. We did not stay long, as we did need to get the baby to bed, but it looked like it could be fun! It definitely had the feel that a lot of the tourism-heavy districts in Asian countries have.

I love Kuala Lumpur! We visited a few years ago when my daughter was 5. The Batu Caves were my favourite but the walk in the heat was a killer!
Hi Karen! Oh man, the heat by the time you make it to the top of the stairs is brutal! Glad to hear your family enjoyed KL too!
