Oh, Malta. What I wouldn’t give to be back enjoying that amazing, year-round sunshine right now! There are so many amazing cultural, historic, and natural things to do on Malta. But every now and then, you just need to take a break to play in the water.
And while Malta is spoiled with beautiful beaches, we wanted to try out their water park for a change of pace during our visit. Was Splash and Fun the best water park we’ve ever been to? No, definitely not. Was it worth an afternoon of our time in Malta?
Yes!

We were in Malta with a toddler and a baby, so I will note that we did not get to experience the big water slides. But they look fabulous, and I would wager that coming here with older kids or teenagers would be worth every penny for a day of fun. The slides are plentiful and the kids coming off of them looked like they were having a blast!
We spent most of our time in the Splash Land Kids’ Pool. And honestly, had it not been so late in the afternoon, we could have spent so much more time here. Our 2-year-old loved climbing on the equipment and enjoying the small water slides. Our baby loved splashing in the shallow waters with me.

There were some unsupervised older kids ruling this area, and only once did an employee address ongoing unsafe behavior. I wish that there was more oversight in this area, as it is designed for toddlers and young children.
We also spent a good amount of time in the wave pool. This is an impressive wave pool. It is quite large, and we had a great time playing in the shallower end of it. The area around it is very slick, so be careful with kids running through here. We did watch one man go down hard on this surface!

Unfortunately, we had forgotten our sunscreen at our amazing St. Paul’s Bay AirBnB that day after applying it in the morning. We hoped to buy some from the shop, but they don’t sell it. This seems like something that would benefit their patrons, particularly out-of-towners like ourselves who are not accustomed to the sunshine! We figured no big deal, we would just camp out under the umbrellas, but it became windy while we were there, and they closed all of the umbrellas for safety.
(In case you’re wondering, we didn’t burn at all. I swear ThinkBaby sunscreen truly lasts all day!)

We tried the food, which was about what you would expect from a water park… not great. We also found the DJ, located between the toddler area and the wave pool, to be painfully loud. Apparently we’re old people now. But it did seem like a bit much, considering the splash area is so close to the speakers.

Some other attractions of the water park include a lazy river, a relaxation pool, an adventure pool, a dinosaur garden, and of course tons of water slides – we counted 10, though I’m not positive on that!
There is an attached theme park, but it does not at all compare to the fun of the water park. “Splaffy’s Fun Park” was in such bad shape that we considered it more creepy than anything else. It was not running while we were there (which was in peak season), but even if it had been, I don’t think we would have spent much time there. We didn’t snap any pictures, and I’m only speaking from the experience of walking through it while it was not running, but it was dirty, small, and just unappealing.

Overall, I would say Splash and Fun lives up to its name. We definitely had a good afternoon there. If you’re only in Malta for a very short time, I would not choose this over many of the amazing things to do in Malta. But for a break from vacation mode, and a great way to burn off some energy for the kids, this Malta water park is a win.
Have you been to Splash and Fun? Maybe tried the water slides? We’d love to hear about your experience in the comments!

I don’t travel with kids so it wouldn’t occur to me to visit a splash park but it’s important to find safe and relevant places for them. Your baby must have had such a great time in the water!
They had so much fun. And yes, there was certainly a time when we would never dream of going to a water park in Malta! But, like you say, it is important to find activities for the little ones as well.
We were so sorry to have had to cancel a trip to Malta this year. So many great sites to visit are on our list. But a fun and cooling stop at the water park has to be added. I remember when my son was small. He was such a water baby. So I know how great that would be travelling with kids.
I’m sorry that you had to cancel your trip! I’m sure it will be even sweeter when you eventually do go!
I visited Malta a few years back ! Beautiful country and they have the most gorgeous coastline and open waters ! Didn’t know of this park then, but looks like it is equally fun if not safer for kids to still get all the water fun, with a view ! =)
Malta is the best!! And yes, their coastlines are gorgeous, but not all beaches are great for kids – especially ones as young as mine! We were glad to have found this water park.
This reminds me of when I was a kid. We used to go to the water parks or the lakes whenever it was too hot to be home. We didn’t have AC and Michigan’s summers can be brutal. With 95 f / 35 c and 100% humidity 😰
What a fun idea for your kids! I would be so nervous about burning but it’s a good thing that you didn’t! For whatever reason, getting sunscreen abroad is always such a struggle! It’s always just so hard to find and if you do find it, it could be insanely expensive.
